That all changed as of January 1, 2014, due to the Affordable Care Act, when the open enrollment started October 1, 2013. 2024 Open Enrollment begins November 1, 2023 and ends January 15, 2024. Special elections available for those losing company health insurance, having a baby, and losing coverage due to a move. Catastrophic short term plans are available ALL YEAR!

- DISCOUNTS available for many individuals earning less than $60,000 and a family of 4 earning less than $200,000.

- All new plans must include: Ambulatory patient services, Emergency services, Hospitalization, Mental health & substance abuse, Prescription drug,
- Rehabilitative & habilitative services/devices, Lab services, Preventive/wellness, Disease management and Pediatric services including oral & vision care
- Most individuals are required to have insurance or there will be penalties
For Small Companies, it may make sense to offer a Defined Contribution. ex. give all employees $200 to purchase their own individual insurance. Employees will be eligible for the subsidies available and can choose their own plan based on their budget and health needs.
